Brian Reed is the person that we hear when we listen to the podcast S-Town. He is the one that researched and went to experience the S-Town in Alabama so we could talk about it. He is the speaker. John B. Macklemore is the guy that originally emailed Brian about a murder investigation in his town, in S-Town. Then Brian becaame intrigue by everything that John have said in his email that has happened in this specific town, and nobody does anything about it. After Brian emailed John back, they decided they should talk on the phone instead of keep emailing each other. By talking on the phone Brian realizes that he needs to do more than just talk on the phone, and decides to actually go to Alabama, to go to this S-Town and see for himself everything that is happeningn there. The reason Brian goes to S-Town is so he can help John with the investigation. Brian tries everything he can think of to help: like hitting the old newspapers in the library and looking for public records from the hospital, etc. From the beginning of this podcast we can hear Brian talking a little bit about time. We hear this happening during the whole podcast. What made the biggest impression concerning timme to me was when Brian first got to S-Town. At that time John took himm for a tour of his property. I found it very interesting how Brian described John's place. He talks about the way John's house looks like it is from a past century. It gives the listener the visual idea of how houses in S-Town supposebly look like.
In the article by Junot Diaz we learn about a Ysrael. Ysrael is a "scary" person that even the people everywhere in Ocoa have heard of. He would wear a mask when he is in front of people so no one can see how his face looks like. In this article we learned that when Ysrael was a baby, a pig had skinned part of his face off. This is why to everyone there he was a scary person, and this is why everyone there new about this story and about Ysrael. Yunior and Rafa are brothers. Rafa is the older one. We hear this story from the perspective of the younger brother - Yunior. Their relationship is pretty typical. The older one, Rafa is always looking for trouble, and the younger one, Yunior mostly just wants to be with his older brother and be his protege. They are both stuck in the campo because during teh time school is out, their mother sends them there with her explanation being that she doesn't have the time or energy to look after them.
